Mrs Hudson

Obviously, the BBC's character is much more fun than the Doyle's one (although funny too), thanks to Una Stubbs beautiful energy !

The actress sparkles with joyful mischievousness. She blows some fresh air on this traditional character.

Always chatting when Holmes is dull and silent, Mrs Hudson likes to mention her loose living. When she was young, she met and married a rather unsavoury man. She became an exotic dancer (which wasn't a problem, excerpt for the videos on YouTube), but her husband was running a drug cartel, and received a death sentence in USA.

Sherlock cares about Mrs Hudson much more than what he shows. In "A scandal in Belgravia", he seriously kicks the ass of a brute who hurt her. Moriarty doesn't miss that sign, and put Mrs Hudson on the list of three people who will die, unless Sherlock commits suicide.

Often annoyed with his landlady's babbling, Holmes respect her nonetheless, although he pretends not no...

Among funny scenes, I especially like one, in "The sign of the free" : John has got a hangover and pretends to read a morning paper. When Mrs Hudson begins to evoke her sex-sessions with her husband, he runs away !

Doyle's character

In "A scarlet in red", we know that Sherlock and John have a landlady, but nothing more. She gets a name a "The sign of the four" and is also given a bit of a dialogue. She is perplexed and worried about Sherlock's strange habits. When he paces his room restlessly, poor Mrs Hudson tries to speak to him :
"I ventured to say something to him about cooling medicine, but he turned on me, sir, wit such a look that I don't know however I got out of the room !"
