The black lotus tong

The black lotus is a small criminal organisation with a wide range of traffic and dealings activities. It's a tong (a Chinese triad): once recruited, there is no way to leave it -alive.

Soon Lin Yao and his brother, merely surviving in the streets in China, were recruited as teens. Soon Lin Yao had to carry on drugs. She managed to leave after a year, making his brother, still loyal to the tong, feeling betrayed, and probably left alone.
Soon Lin hoped that London would be far away enough from China, but that proved to be wrong. The mafia has ramifications all around the globe. When, five years later, the black lotus had to come to settle a case of a lost item (killing two putative robbers), he kills two (three) birds with a stone, having Soo Lin killed by her brother as well.
No surprise, though, if, arriving in a foreign country, their general decides to take the advice of a consulting criminal. Bad idea, Moriarty has no more mercy for those who disappoint him.

I regret that this structure has not been exploited as much as it could, from a narrative point of view. We see some fights, a beautiful circus show, and a spectacular attempt of murder. Spectacular, but too superficial?
The discreet little tattoo under one foot as a sign of belonging for initiates? It makes a little bit "cheap", but let's say ok.
A woman as a chief? That was a good point! Alas, she receives the same fate as many other female characters in the show: lightly touched, her story ends up quickly.
Apart from crime, what are the links between the members? What are the links outside the group, inside a bigger tong? That could have made a deeper, thicker story...
There is a touch of exoticism here, but just a touch. However, we get two beautiful shows at the end of the episode, and that's not so bad. Thanks for that!
