The final problem

The Holmes team (meaning Sherlock, Mycroft and John) decides to confront Eurus -the little sister, once for all. The youngest Holmes is supposed to be safely jailed on a secret fortress island. But it soon appears that Eurus is a master of manipulation, and that she has planned this meeting long ago...

Well, it's rather difficult to be enthusiastic about what could be the very last episode of the serie. It leaves me with mixed feelings.

Let's settle first the negative impressions.

I'm not one of these fans who cannot accept a major adaptation. A third Holmes child has been added, why not? It doesn't diminish the value of Conan Doyle's work. An artistic work is made to be a source of other works inspired by it. Point is, what is this character adding to the story? I'm a bit perplex about that... Of course, a villain who is a Holmes herself is more interesting. It creates some familial drama (thirty years in an episode, too much?).
But I'm afraid that the struggles within the Homes family left me completely cold.

Worst, the whole story seemed a big WTF to me: the fortress, the solitary confinement for decades, the story about the "dog", John getting miraculously rid of his chains when he is drowning (unintentional tribute to Houdini?)... On the top of it, Eurus accept to save John and to go back to jail why? Because Sherlock ask her... Highly credible!

Ok, now everything wasn't lost for me. I did appreciate some of the emotional scenes: the weird declaration of love between Sherlock and Molly, Sherlock finally admitting that he does know Greg's name, John getting someone killed because he can't be a murderer...

The top for me was Moriarty's come back!! As a flash-back, to be honest, because he is supposed to be more dangerous dead than alive (to be added to the WTF list), but I did miss him so much...

Mainly, I think it was an interesting attempt to fill part of the void in Sherlock's past. At Doyle's period of time, Freud had just begun to become famous, and few writers took care of their hero's childhood.

But instead of an episode dedicated to the trio, I would have preferred an intrigue implying all characters, linking them.

Well, we'll have to do with this end. This serie IS a MUST !!! By it's visual and scenaristic innovations, by its first class casting (all of the actors), it has opened a new era in series history. Thanks to all the crew for this wonderful show. Chapeau bas !
