The lying detective

John blames Sherlock for Mary's death and refuses to see him. Lost without his friend, Sherlock becomes paranoid and declares that Culverton Smith, a powerful magnate, is a serial killer. Why ? Because he met his daughter, who claims the Smith Company created a drug that can erase a short period of memories, and that her father confessed his crimes before having her taking this drug. Are Sherlock and the young woman both storytellers ?

My favourite moments

  • A vulnerable, using Sherlock (missing John) is much more sexy than the usual one
  • The part when Sherlock visualise a deduction about light coming in a kitchen
  • The message sent by Sherlock to his "big brother", watching from above, when he is walking in the streets -his route writes "fuck off".
  • Mrs Hudson's triumphant arrival
  • A strong reunion between both no more-but-forever friends, at the therapist.
  • Mrs Hudson laughing at Mycroft and defying him.

What do we learn ?

  • Alone, high and upset, Sherlock is still able to produce right deductions, but he doesn't know how anymore -"it's a reflex, I can't stop it" and later "my brain is going too fast for me"
  • Wiggins makes a poor substitute to John
  • Mycroft goes full force when it's about watching Sherlock (with public funds), invoking that his brother may become "a threat to national security".
  •  Mrs Hudson drives an Aston Martin
  • And, last but not least, arrives the 3rd Sherlock "Sheringford" "Eurus" (east wind): smart of course, loving disguises and... psychopath.

A good episode for me indeed, despite the tiresome BBC pitch: "Sherlock faces perhaps the most chilling enemy in his long career". Yeah, sure, just like the other ones? Each new enemy is supposed to be even more evil than the former one... Despite Toby Jone's good performance, no one can equal Moriarty/Andrew Scott in my eyes.
But the relationship between John and Sherlock shows new developments. Mrs Hudson receives a more interesting role. And Sherlock's plan, although careless, is a beautiful mark of his trust and love for John.
