Molly Hooper

Dear Molly!
Until the arrival of Mary Morstan in season 3, Molly and Mrs Hudson were the only true representative for half of the humanity... Biologist at St Bart's Hospital, Molly's devotion to Sherlock seems to be limitless. She comes whenever required, works without questions, and could do anything to help the genius. Even slapping him in his face when it's what he needs!

There is something beautiful and sad in Molly's hopeless love for Sherlock.
At first, he noticed his power of attraction on her (not such a common reaction: see Donovan...) and used compliments to get whatever service he needed. Molly reacted as a young girl, almost a child: she blushed, changed her makeup or her haircut for him...
More than once, Sherlock will hurt her with his cold logic. At Christmas, he mocks the efforts she made to be attractive, before realizing that all this was made for him.
Molly makes several attempts to have a relationship. She knows that the genius will never be a man for her -nor for anyone, actually. But all her boyfriends seem strongly related to Sherlock. The first one, Jim is called ... Moriarty! Another one, Tom, could be a double for Sherlock: same look, same figure...
But no relationship will last, as if Molly couldn't give up hope?

With time however, will come a genuine and deep complicity.
In "the empty hearse" (season 3 ep. 1), Sherlock admits that Molly is more important to him than he could admit. Moriarty missed that point. He found three weaknesses in Sherlock: John, Mrs Hudson and Lestrade, but failed to understand the role of his ex-girlfriend in Sherlock's life (and Mycroft's role, beside).
In "the fall of Reichenbach" (2.3) Molly was able to see that Sherlock felt trapped and lost, when even John didn't feel the danger. She helped Sherlock to escape death.
When John is so upset that he won't talk to Sherlock anymore (3.1) Molly will have the honour to become Sherlock's new assistant. That's his way to say "thank you".
Sherlock to Molly: "You do count. You've always counted"
