Her Majesty, regular reader of John's blog, request Sherlock's discreet intervention in a very delicate matter.
A woman, called Irene Adler, could compromize a member of the royal family.
Although not especially interested in the royal affair, Sherlock is requested to accept it. But the woman he is about to meet is all but common.
The last episode of the first season ended on a cliffhanger: a first confrontation between Moriarty and Sherlock, each one threatening the other's life. Here comes the dénouement: Moriarty receives a phone call (from Irene Adler) and gives up the idea of killing John and Sherlock -for the moment.
My favorite moments
- While all characters are in a dead end, "staying alive" can be heard on Moriarty's phone.
- Sherlock and Irene, looking each other at the same time at photos of the other one.
- Beside the usual "domestic", there is a little fight between Sherlock and John !
- The Christmas evening.
- Sherlock's cold wrath when CIA guys attack Mrs Hudson.
One of my favorite episode, tense, moving, funny... Alas ! The end of the story between Sherlock and Irene is completely missed (for me). The bright knight saving the damzel in distress ? WTF... But, if you forget -forgive- this, a very good episode, well served by a simple and beautiful music.
What do we learn ?
- Moriarty gives nicknames to the brothers : Mycroft is "the ice man" and Sherlock "the virgin".
- The second name of John is Hamish : John Hamish Watson
- Mycroft ignores why his brother chose to become a detective. As a child, Sherlock wanted to be a pirate.
Characters
Admittedly, this episode gives a good part to female roles. Well, more than usually, could we say. Beside Mrs Hudson and Molly, in the shadow of Irene Adler, Kate and Jeanette succeed in making noticeable characters. There is also an important one, never seen but present too, the Queen herself.
See the casting for all characters.
